Dr. Debra Enzenbacher, a Human Geographer, has joined the Research Committee for the project “Visions of Brunei: A Cultural Free-to-All Visual Experience of Digital Hybrid Mural” led by Associate Professor Kong Ho in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

This studio-based visual arts research project will culminate in a finished digital hybrid mural that can be easily transported and set up in a public space such as a mall for viewers to enjoy.  This new type of digital hybrid mural offers a portable solution to traditional site-specific murals in which viewers need to visit a mural site to view the efforts of a single muralist or group of artists.

This pilot scheme provides a promising vehicle for introducing the artistic talents of Brunei’s visual artists and UBD art students.  Each artist contributor to the project will be responsible for producing one discrete image to form part of the larger mural.

Once completed and set up, the mural may well prompt some domestic tourism within Brunei as members of the public travel to view it.
The links between art and tourism are strong and varied as people travel near and far to view works of art in collections e.g. art galleries, museums, special exhibits as well as individual and group artworks in and out of doors e.g. sculpture, painting, pottery, music, dance, theatre, film, photography and murals,to name but some art forms.
